How can I dye my hair from natural dark brown to blonde without damaging it at all?

When I was 16 I just bought a thing of blonde dye put it in, waited 4 weeks %26amp; did it again until it was so light it looked silver. I damaged my hair so bad it was like straw and some fell out in the back, I had no idea what I was doing (obviously) My hair is all natural now and I'm thinking of trying blonde again now that I know what I'm doing (I've done every other color from black to neon pink) but I haven't tried blonde again I've been scared of to much damage. Anyone know a safe harm-free way?? and, anyone know how soon, if at all, hair can get permed, before or after dying, without causeing any damage, thanx alot :)

Don't use bleaching kits. Try Herbal Essences lightest blondes you can find with the oil in them and cream (not powder bleach). They are more gentle, I find.

Then use something that undoes the damage. For instance, keratin helps repair blonde damaged hair. So the best for that would be to grab John Frieda's "Blonde Hair Care Repair" in the tub...it's awesome stuff and works great (try drugstore.com you'll see the 5 star reviews).

I use Ojon Restorative Hair Therapy (a leave in palm oil) it works miracles, too.

Other than that, you can do olive oil or coconut hot treatments every week wrapped in a towel and then shampoo out.

Try to get gentle shampoos without laurteth sulfates in them. Do not use hairspray.

And if you can: Try streaks, you will only do say 1/3 of your hair rather than damage the entire head and still get a cool blonde look. But a professional is best for that or a "cap" you can buy where you pull your hairs through.

personally i wouldnt dye it blonde. it's going to be very expensive to keep up with. [im naturally blonde and dyed my hair dark brown, its pricey having to pay for a touch up every 4 weeks.] but if you insist on doing it, i'd say do it gradually. start with some highlights or something. and then take it from there.

well this is honest being a hairdresser and experience i have, unfortanetly u gotta bleach/lighten ur hair to make it lighter esp if u have level tones dark blonde above to black......use good shampoos and conditioners and regular trims/haircuts always helps.
