Any style ideas for natural African American hair?

I went to the store to get a hair magazine and there was nothing in there for natural black girl hair. It was for perms a weaves. I'm trying to grow my hair out because perms make my hair break off. Also, I had a weave one time and I hated it. I had a lot of trouble maintaining it. Currently my hair is straighted and curled under. Can you think of any ideas (besides braids and my current do) for my hair?

Note: My hair is about 1 or 2 inches above my shoulders.

umm... try flat twists in the front and single twists in the back... cap should fit on that.or ... same thing with braids... those are my favorite styles. nappturality.com has excellent stuff... and a thread about graduation hair too

try some bohemian twist ( thats what we call them) like the kinky twist. their like loose braids but its twisted and loose

rod your hair on little bity rods. since your hair is naural its may be sorta frizz but thats cute, the little nappy curls.
