Can black people that don't hav good hair and don't hav a perm use a flat iron? I'm asking because my mom seems to think that it will melt my hair together. [She's very old fashioned.....she still owns and USES a pressing comb.]

yeah you can use a flat iron, but you may need a straigtning comb to get the roots of your hair, or you can blow your hair out then use a flat iron to get it straighter before you do but a leave in conditoner on it to protect your hair from the heat good luck

if you are refering to people without good hair meaning unhealthy hair then, no you should not use a flat iron or any heat on your hair because it would result in more bad/unhealthy hair
if you are refering to people without good hair meaning kinky healthy hair then, yes you can use a flat iron just blowdry your hair first to loosen the kinks
you can still use a pressing comb, however it's best to use an electric one that way the heat is more controlled

yes you can use a flat iron without a perm just wash and condition your hair try with hair mayonnaise or carrot oil let it sit in there with a shower cap over it for about an hour it will make your hair softer even without a perm after you wash that out then blow it out and flat iron it but make sure you get close to the root of your hair so it can be straight but it works different for every hair type

Flat iron can not get to the roots, and the hairline area. I prefer pressing combs too.
A lot of women still own a pressing combs and the hair salons still use them too.

if you use a flat iron it gets the hair straight but maybe not all the way to the roots. My stylist suggested to me that i use a flat iron then wrap it to get the roots straight or just simply press all of it with the pressing comb.
