I'd like to go from black hair to my natural colour.?

I've had rich, black hair for about 3 years now and I'm seriously considering going back to my natural colour - light, golden brown for the spring. I don't trust salons, so I was thinking about stripping my hair with bleach and then dying it the colour I desire.

My hair isn't in the best condition but it's not terrible - I am up for a haircut, and me dying my hair back to its natural hue will prevent me from dying it anymore.

Question is...do you think I should keep my hair black?

hmm.. I think natural hair colors always go with everything you have, but actually look good with black hair. Stay with black.

If your skin is very, very fair, like mine is, then I'd imagine black being a bit harsh.

Also, if you strip your hair then dye it, cutting it would be a good way to help it retain some of it's health, since hair dye is really harsh and frayes ends like no other.

DON'T BLEACH IT! Let it grow out. It will take about 2-3 years. I had black hair for 3 years too, bleached it, and it turned "stained blonde" (I'm a natural blonde). I lost 12 inches of hair by bleaching it with professional stuff from Sally's Beauty Supply. Just start dying it red and snip off the ends a little at a time til you can cut the black all out. Red is super easy to strip and won't fry your hair. My black is almost all out, the bleach frizz is finally gone. I have about a year to go before I strip the red out. It's a long process but you'll save your hair in the end. Good luck!

Changing would be dramatic, going from that dark, to a lighter color.

I would go to a good salon outlet(where they sell products) and get a good hair stripping product. Walmart also sells a kit.

Do the stripping, then go to a good salon for a haircut, and deep condition. Wait a week or so, using a good conditioner each day. Then color it the color you like. Id recommend Natural Instincts....theres no peroxide or ammonia, so its healthier.

im not really sure what your reason behind not "trusting salons" is but i can tell you right now as a stylist and an educator for John Paul Mitchell systems, that if you try to strip that color out of yourself you are looking at a big huge mess that you are going to have to go to the salon to have fixed anyways. black is by far the hardest color to remove from hair and it is a far more complicated process than all these people who are telling you to do it understand... it can be a very damaging process if not done correctly and it can also turn out very splotchy and uneven... there is also a process that you have to do after stripping your hair color, that is also going to be a mess if you dont understand the chemestry behind color! i strongly suggest that you ask around and find people you know and like their hair, then ask where they get their hair done and go to a reccomended stylist... if you do it yourself i promise you will have to spend more money in the long run trying to get it fixed... color corrections generally run somewhere around $150- 300
